Assumption Life: Volume 5/Issue 21 December 20, 2023
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Lord, send down Your Spirit to guide me during Advent this year. May the Holy Spirit help me journey closer to You and lift me up when I feel down and led me when I feel lost. I may stumble at times, but I know my ultimate journey is to draw closer to You and build Your kingdom here on earth–a kingdom that Jesus’s birth, life and death helped secure. Amen.
For the four weeks of Advent, we will be sharing a hymn. We hope you will take a moment to listen and that you feel the hope and joy of the season.
Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming
Please pray for the following families and friends: The Barbera Family, the Family of George Brandt, and all those who are recovering from sickness or injury.
Together we can
Understand the Brain
When people are upset, they access the fight/flight part of their brains.
1) Do not try to solve a problem when you or your child are upset.
2) Wait until after a cooling off period (positive time-out) when you can both access your rational brains.
3) Putting the problem on the family meeting agenda allows time to calm down and access the rational part of your brain.

Dear Assumption School Families and Friends,
Wishing everyone a joyful and blessed Christmas from Assumption School. We have celebrated in so many ways in preparation for the coming of Jesus as well as the joy of being a school. Making the path straight has been the theme of this week’s Advent gospel message and Assumption School students did so in so many ways. On Tuesday, 3rd through 8th graders took part in our annual Advent Reconciliation Prayer Service. Ricky F. from 8th grade provided a beautiful reflection about the weight that was lifted. On Wednesday, our Class of 2024 had a wonderful Victorian Tea and Prayer Partner Gift Exchange. It is the tradition for our 8th grade parents to host their 8th grade party in the style of the Victorian Tea. 8th graders put on their best clothes, practiced their best afternoon tea etiquette and enjoyed a time honored gift exchange while proud parent volunteers served tiny sandwiches and tea.
And tomorrow for our last day before Christmas Break, we celebrate through song and scripture the story of the Nativity as told by our first graders. The Annual School Christmas Pageant begins at 10 a.m. in our Church. All are welcome to watch our first graders bring the good news of the birth of Christ to our Assumption School community with the help of Mr. Suwandi, Mr. Vaughan, and our 8th grade helpers and choir!
A few reminders about tomorrow, Thursday, December 21:
- Morning Extended Care is available to families beginning at 7 a.m.
- All students (except first graders) should be in school uniform including their uniform crewneck sweatshirt or navy blue cardigan as we are going to the church this day.
- Our Christmas Pageant (Nativity Story as told by First Grade) will be at 10 a.m. in the Church.
- Christmas Classroom parties begin at 11 a.m.
- Thursday is a noon dismissal with NO Extended Care in the afternoon.
- There will be NO carline in the afternoon. Park your car and walk to the classroom to pick up your student.
We have had so many opportunities to celebrate our community, faith, and learning during the month of December and it has truly kept us active and engaged. Tomorrow, Thursday, December 21 is our last day of school before winter break. From December 22 to January 8 our school is closed to celebrate with our families and friends.
We invite you all to attend the Church of the Assumption Children's Liturgy at 4:30 p.m. on December 24. Students can wear their Christmas best and take part in our Children's Choir. Even if your student isn't an official children's choir member, they can participate because they know the songs! It is a joyful night full of beautiful songs and celebration. The Assumption Youth Social Action Team will be leading our Parish Christmas Pageant during this service and our own students will be taking part as different parts of the Nativity. We hope you can come!
We are so grateful for the support and love of our Assumption School families and the greater Assumption Parish community and hope that this Christmas season brings joy and happiness. May 2024 bring Jesus' hope and renewal to us all. We hope you will spread the word that we are accepting applications for our 2024-2025 year excited to serve our community by providing a Catholic, quality, and caring education.
In Christ's Love,
Lana Rocheford
Principal

Hey, congrats! You got to the end. Way to go! Fun fact: The original Elf on the Shelf was named Frisbee. He was inspired by the creators' (Chanda Bell) own toy elf, Frisbee, who they grew up with in the 1970s. They told HuffPost that Frisbee "would report to Santa Claus at night and be back in a different position in our house the next day."
