We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Prayer:
Loving Father,
We thank you for your love and protection.
We praise you for bringing us together as a community built on faith, love, and service.
Bless us, your children, the people of Assumption Church.
Send us your Holy Spirit and make us faithful disciples of your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through the intercession of Mary, our Mother, open our arms wide,
And help us mirror the warmth of Her embrace, so that no soul feels alone or excluded.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph pray for us.
Amen
Together we can
Use Positive Discipline
Positive Discipline is a school-wide social/emotional program implemented in 2017 to help teachers and students connect in a positive and meaningful way.
The Five Criteria for Positive Discipline are below:
1. Helps students feel a sense of connection (belonging and significance)
2. Is kind and firm at the same time (respectful and encouraging)
3. Is effective long-term
4. Teaches valuable social and life skills for good character (respect, self regulation, concern for others, problem solving, cooperation)
5. Invites students to discover how capable they are, and to use their power constructively
To help parents and families engage with students using similar language they are hearing in the classroom, each week, we will highlight one of 52 parenting tools that can be used in partnership during the year.

Keeping oneself physically clean and neat and one's belongings in good order
Oh Infinite Beauty, in Your wisdom, You created all things with perfect order. Orderliness brings peace, beauty, harmony, and joy! Please help me to keep order in my own life so that I may respect those things.
Making your bed neatly
Organizing your dresser drawers
Throwing your garbage away
Cleaning your room
Brushing your teeth
I made my bed.
I organized my dresser drawers.
We threw that garbage away.
I put my things away. I cleaned my room.
I brushed my teeth.
Dear Family and Friends of Assumption School,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! As we prepare to open our doors, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome back to each of you. Our theme for this year, “Together We Can Hope,” speaks powerfully to the journey ahead—one filled with promise, faith, and community.
This theme holds special meaning as we prepare to celebrate 75 years of Church and School of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary serving San Leandro—a Jubilee of gratitude, joy, and renewed purpose. It also beautifully aligns with the global Jubilee Year of Hope, first called by Pope Francis and now continued in celebration with Pope Leo. In a world that longs for peace and renewal, we are reminded that hope is not passive—it is a choice, a calling, and a shared commitment.
There is so much to learn in this week’s newsletter, so I’m keeping my message short to help you focus on the important details below. Whether it's updates on the first days of school, important reminders, or new faculty, this first newsletter is your key to staying informed and connected.
Assumption Life begins again on August 6 and arrives in your inbox every Wednesday. Be sure to scroll all the way down and click “View entire message”—there’s always something valuable waiting for you. You can also access it anytime via our school app or website.
Thank you for being a vital part of our Assumption community. With your continued support, I know this will be a year filled with hope, growth, and joyful celebration.
Here’s to a fantastic school year ahead!
Can’t wait to see you soon,
Lana Rocheford

Lammas also marked the mid-point between the summer solstice and autumn equinox. Learn more about Lammas Day. (https://www.almanac.com/content/month-august-holidays-fun-facts)
