Volume 6/Issue 32 Assumption Life April 2, 2025
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Each Wednesday of Lent, we’ll share a 3-minute retreat for prayer and reflection on your computer or phone. Pause to reflect on Scripture and use the arrows to move at your own pace.
4th Sunday 3-minute retreat - A Light to the Nations
“When I was seven, I was at a home improvement store with my dad, buying paint supplies. He handed me a list of things we’d need, along with a pen. He asked that I mark off items as we gathered them. It was a simple but essential task, perfectly suited for my limited, second-grade ability to assist with this errand. I followed him to the paint counter and watched, enthralled, as the colors were mixed and the can was pounded shut. The employee handed it over to my dad, who looked down at me. “What’s next?” he asked.
I looked at the heavy can housing the freshly mixed paint and then down at the scrap paper and pen I was holding. For some reason, carrying the paint struck me as a more valuable task than managing the list of supplies. I requested a switch of duties. My dad refused, explaining that the can was too heavy, but I was insistent. He eventually gave in and let me try. I didn’t make it ten steps before the weight of the can proved to be too much, and I dropped it. The pressure unleashed the cap, sending the paint out into a massive puddle in the center of the aisle. My determination to do it my way ended up leading to disaster.
Years later, not much has changed. I still frequently assign myself duties the Lord never intended for me. In the process, I neglect the unique and perfectly suited vocation I was created to fulfill. When I’m open to the movement of the Spirit and my place in God’s plan, it isn’t difficult to recognize my own responsibilities and crosses. Whatever is not mine to bear, may I surrender to God’s infinite wisdom and work of salvation.” - Elizabeth Pardi - wife, mother, writer, runner and perpetual pajama wearer.
Together we can
Distract & Redirect
Distraction and redirection can change the energy of a situation.
1) Remove your child from the TV knobs and redirect, "You can play with the blocks."
2) Distract by becoming the tickle monster.
3) Admit your part in a power struggle, and start again after some time-out.
4) In the middle of an argument, tell your teenager you are on his or her side.
Virtue of the week
Perseverance
Also known as: Persistence Definition of Perseverance: Taking the steps necessary to carry out objectives in spite of difficulties
Prayer for Perseverance: Dear Jesus, You carried Your cross to Calvary even though You were tired, weak, and hurting. Please give me strength not to give up when life gets hard.
Perseverance Looks Like:
Taking the time to do school work neatly and thoroughly
Perseverance Sounds Like:
I will take the time to do my work well.

Dear Assumption Families and Friends,
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended our annual State of the School last week, whether in person or via Zoom. It was a wonderful evening filled with great information about where we are, who we are, and where we are headed as a school. Special thanks to PTG for hosting and for always supporting our mission. I appreciate the opportunity to connect with our parent community in such a meaningful way.
I’m especially excited for this weekend’s opening of Into the Woods Jr., our Drama Club’s big performance! Our talented students have been working hard, and we can’t wait to see them shine on stage. There will be two shows—Saturday evening and a Sunday matinee—so don’t miss out! A huge shout-out to Karen and Liz for their dedication in making this program such a success year after year.
Welcoming Our Newest Trojans!
Next week, on Tuesday, April 9, we are thrilled to welcome our incoming TK and Kindergarten students and families to our annual 1, 2, 3 Come Play with Me social and signing night. This is a special tradition where our newest Bears meet their future classmates, sign their official Assumption School certificate, and enjoy a fun evening together.
We would love to have our current TK families join us to help welcome our new students, and we’re also inviting current Kindergarten parents (without students) to come and share their experiences with incoming families. Additionally, we are looking for 7th and 8th grade helpers to greet families, play with little ones, and serve food—a great way for our junior high students to give back. Junior High Sign-up details are here!
Celebrating Diverse Learners Day
On Thursday, April 10, we will celebrate Diverse Learners Day, a special event we started at Assumption to build awareness and empathy for different learning needs. This year, we are looking for guest readers—parents, parishioners, or relatives—to read storybooks about celebrating differences and learning styles in classrooms. We have a selection of books available and time slots in most grades. If you’re interested in being a guest reader, please email me.
Helping our students understand the differences between equity, fairness, and equality fosters empathy and inclusion—values that strengthen our community.
Building the Next Generation of Leaders
Tuesday, our 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students learned about becoming a candidate for SLT (Student Leadership Team) or Campus Ministry for the 2025-2026 school year. They received candidate packets, which require: ✅ Teacher recommendations ✅ Parent permission ✅ A student leadership résumé
All materials are due by April 16, and at the end of the month, candidates will go through an interview and selection process. Our student leaders are role models, embodying our Student Learning Expectations both inside and outside of school. Whether in uniform, free dress, or their community, they represent Assumption School—and we can’t wait to see who steps up to lead next year!
EANS2 Funding Ends—Help Us Bridge the Gap
We also want to share an important update regarding EANS II (Emergency Assistance to Non-Public Schools), a federal program under the American Rescue Plan that provided funding to address the impact of COVID-19, particularly learning loss. Unfortunately, this funding ended abruptly on Friday, resulting in the loss of funding support for three key members of our learning team with only two and a half months left in the school year. These team members have played a critical role in supporting teachers and improving student learning post-pandemic. Because of their impact, we have committed to including their wages in our budget moving forward.
However, this unexpectedly increases our wage expenses for the current school year, making our Week of Giving at the end of April all the more important. Please consider supporting this last fundraising effort as we work to bridge the gap between tuition and the true cost of educating our students. More information is provided in the State of the School presentation.
Prayers for Myanmar and Thailand & Lenten Reflections
As we enter the Fifth Sunday of Lent, we hold in prayer all those suffering from the recent earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Let us continue to open our hearts during this season of reflection, seeking ways to support and uplift one another.
Thank you all for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing many of you at our school events in the coming weeks!
In Love and Appreciation,
Lana Rocheford
Principal
