Assumption Life: Volume 5/Issue 22 January 10, 2024
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Loving Father, on this day, many will struggle in the harshness of winter. Please guide the homeless to shelter, and give comfort to the homebound. In places where winter has delivered yet another onslaught, please give courage to the discouraged and spiritual comfort to the disheartened. Where there is hardship because of ice, snow, and coldness, please give hope. Lord God, although we are fragile in our humanity, help us to remain strong in faith. Amen.
Special prayers for families in our Assumption community who recently lost these loved ones:
Anthony and Jessie Libreri, beloved great-grandparents of Kaitlyn and Kaethen Dennis
John Westmoreland, beloved grandfather of Mathilda and Winston Babcock
Siervo Lopez Barrios, beloved grandfather of Owen Barrios
Salvatore Barbera, beloved grandfather of Leila and Julian Barbera
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
And for Betty Tully, mother of Mrs. Munoz; Janet Guvera, Mr. DelCastillo's grandmother; and Brian Suelzle, as they recover from illness.
Together we can
Validate Feelings
1) Allow children to have their feelings so they can learn they are capable of dealing with them.
2) Don't fix, rescue, or try to talk children out of their feelings.
3) Validate their feelings: "I can see you are really (angry, upset, sad).
4) Then keep your mouth shut and have faith in your children to work it through.

Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School:
Welcome to 2024! I hope you had a wonderful break with family and friends. On behalf of our entire faculty and staff community, please accept our gratitude for your generosity in holiday gifts that were given to teachers, office staff, instructional assistants, support staff, and administration. We are all so thankful and appreciative of your thoughtfulness.
I want to take this opportunity to welcome Deacon Rigo Cabezas and his wife Reina. Deacon Rigo has been appointed to the Church of Assumption!
“I am happy to inform you that Bishop Michael Barber and Deacon Tim More, diocesan director of Permanent Deacons, assigned Deacon Rigo Cabezas in Assumption as our parish permanent deacon. Deacon Rigo resides in San Leandro with his wife Reina. At his previous assignments, he worked as the Evangelization and Faith Formation Director of Holy Spirit in Fremont and parochial administrator of St. Patrick Church in Oakland. His ministerial duties at Assumption will include helping with liturgical and sacramental celebrations, and the evangelization and faith formation programs in the parish.” – Fr. John Carillo’s welcome email.
We are so excited to welcome Deacon Rigo and his family! We will see him more after January 24, 2024 and hopefully during our Open House and Catholic Schools Week activities!
I was honored on Tuesday to walk through the classrooms with an Epiphany blessing of the class - a tradition celebrated usually on January 6 but since we were still on break, Tuesday we welcomed the arrival of the three wise men, or Magi, that visited the Holy Family in Bethlehem after Jesus’ birth. It also gave me a chance to say hello to each class!
The month of January is an important month for prospective and current families that would like to enroll NEW students for the 2024-2025 school year. We are very excited to already have a great interested in our programs! We are on track to another record year of applications! We are grateful for your continued positive word of mouth to neighbors, families, and friends. We are especially looking for prospective students in our TK, Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 7th grades. We anticipate limited space and a likely waiting list in our 1st, 3rd, and 6th grades. Are you a current family with a school-aged sibling? Siblings are on our admissions
Feel free to send our online application to your families, friends, and even former daycare communities if they are interested in our school. You can also invite them to register for our Catholic Schools Week Open House on January 28 from 11:45 - 2 p.m. Open House is a great opportunity for current families and new families to see classroom displays, talk with teachers, or talk with each other about the great learning taking place at Assumption School.
Feel free to send NEW families this LINK for more information about how to apply to Assumption School.
Thank you for all you do! Together we can do great things!
In God's Love,
Lana Rocheford
Principal
CALENDAR CHANGE
