Assumption Life: Volume 5/Issue 2
August 9, 2023
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Father in heaven, all creation rightly gives you praise, for all life and all holiness come from you. In the plan of your wisdom she who bore the Christ in her womb was raised body and soul in glory to be with him in heaven. May we follow her example in reflecting your holiness and join in her hymn of endless love and praise.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Special Intentions: For the repose of the soul of Obi Chidom, father of alumni students Arinze, Oderah and Amara and husband of Gabriela. The Chidom family are well-loved in our Assumption School Alumni community. Mr. Chidom passed this Monday after a long illness.
Together we can
Prepare our students for school using these Back to School Hacks:
1. Start your school year bedtime routine now.
- Don't wait until next week to get your students in bed in preparation for the early wake up call!
- No screen time 1 hour before bedtime.
- Bathe, lay out student uniforms, place backpacks and shoes by the door.
- Read a story together.
2. Talk to your students about lunches and snacks they want and enjoy.
4. Create a public space in the home without distractions to work on homework.
Doing homework in a bedroom can provide too many distractions and not a lot of supervision. A kitchen or dining room table where you can see the work as well as computer screens is ideal.
5. For our younger kids, practice buttons and zippers on pants and shorts so they can use the bathroom independently.
6. Practice seat belt safety but also teach them how to unbuckle and buckle their own seatbelts and carseats to help with our carline.

SCHOOL SUNDAY MASS AUGUST 27 10 A.M. - 11 A.M.:

How does it work:
- Plan to attend the 10 a.m. Mass in-person with your student in FULL UNIFORM.
- At the end of the Mass, look for a staff person (or Mrs. Rocheford) who will have Free Dress Passes to give to students.
- Place your LAST NAME and Grade(s) on the Free Dress Pass.
- The student turns in the free dress pass on the ASSIGNED SCHOOL MASS FREE DRESS DAY on the PASS to your students' teacher to count you as a family who participated. (only one hour per family not per student).
Small print: Only in-person school- or class-sponsored Assumption Parish Sunday Masses count toward service hours. Those masses are on our school calendar and are usually twice a month.

New Parent Orientation
We are excited to welcome our new families to our New Parent Orientation Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the school. We will have our Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten teachers at this event as well as representatives from our PTG, School Board, Parish, and other parent organizations.
Thank you to our PTG Board for providing snacks as well as parent ambassadors.
Staffing Updates:
We are happy to announce that we are in the final stages of hiring a wonderful TK teacher and will provide an introduction at tomorrow's New Parent Orientation as well as a small bio in next week's Assumption Life.
We are also pleased to announce that while we don't have a permanent placement in our second grade position, Ms. Marilyn Stewart, former Assumption teacher and supporter of our school, has agreed to step into the role as an interim teacher. Ms. Stewart is excited to teach second grade and support the transition when a well-suited new teacher is hired. We are grateful for her time and excited for the second graders. A small bio from Ms. Stewart will also be placed in next week's Assumption Life.
We are in the final stages of hiring two part-time instructional assistants.
We still have Extended Care assistant openings for our Extended Care. This part-time position is from 3 - 6 Monday through Friday. Applicants must be 18 years or older. Please send any interest to [email protected].
A full introduction of all teachers, assistants, and support staff will be presented at our Back to School Night on August 24.
