On December 19, all 33 of our 8th graders put on their Sunday best and displayed their best manners as they celebrated the Christmas/Advent season with their annual Victorian Tea hosted by the 8th grade parents. Parents decorated the Small Hall into a proper and festive event with holiday music, finger foods, crumpets and desserts. And let's not forget the tea served with cream and honey. Pinky NOT up! Thank you to all!

Our online application process is still open for any families with prospective students to our school until March 7 to register for our New Student Testing on March 11. After this date, applicants will be on a waitlist for new student testing and processing.

We have openings in all grades. Please send this link to any prospective families interested in a TK - 8th grade Christ-centered, community-based, and academically excellent education for their children.

Last week, our 7th and 8th grade students completed and competed in our middle school science fair. We are proud of each student for testing their hypothesis, researching, gathering and testing data, and presenting to our community. On Tuesday, Fr. Leonard and Fr. Chris hosted Assumption School students in grades 3 - 8 to participate in our Advent Sacrament of Reconciliation service. This prayer service helped students to pause and reflect about how they can be better connected to their God and to those around them. We participate in this sacrament as a school twice in a school year -- during Advent and Lent.

Pallen’s Martial Arts has a new look. Check out our brand new facility with an adults-only gym area. We have a new location, new youth and adult classes with weekend options, and
new ways to work out as a family.
Pallen’s has been working with families since 1968 to develop the martial arts methods that focus on body and mind in all the best ways. Today, parents can work out at our state-of-the-art gym, and watch their kids classes on video monitors. We welcome families that get active together.

We had 20 kids from Assumption attend the Young Art Fundraiser on Friday, December 13th.
The kids did:
- art lesson
- small clay sculpture
- slime making
- salt art
- lava lamp making
- face painting
And 20% goes back to the school.
It was a wonderful night, thank you to all the families who participated.

A total of 175 pounds of candy was donated in the Treats for Troops drive held in coordination with Mrs. Christine Wolf and Campus Ministry in November. The organizers and distributors were delighted and amazed about how generous everyone was. They asked Mrs. Wolf to pass on a heartfelt thank you to all for remembering them and caring so much. Another great example of "together we can do great things!"

To earn his Emergency Preparedness Badge in pursuit of Eagle Scout rank, James Peter (JP) Chiu, a tenth grade student at St. Joseph Notre Dame in Alameda and a member of Boy Scout Troup 556 in San Leandro, raised $3,000 via crowdfunding from family, friends and businesses to purchase disaster emergency backpacks for 50 clients at the Alameda Food Bank. Each backpack has a radio, food, water, poncho, work gloves, dust mask, first aid kit, multi-plier tool, whistle, duct tape, survival blanket, bio-hazard bag, tissue wipes, a fire extinguisher and an activity bag for children with a stuffed animal. He personally handed out the disaster kits to clients last week. “Our clients were thrilled to receive this valuable safety equipment and clearly touched by JP’s heartfelt gesture,” says AFB volunteer Margie Benziger.

During a California Native American presentation by Monte and Dusty Pereira, the 4th Graders had the opportunity to try out some traditional Chumas tribe instruments. The instruments were made out of local plants and animals, such as a turtle shell, deer hide, kelp, seeds from plants, and a coyote paw. They never wasted anything from nature.

Mr. Monte Pereira was sharing with the 4th Graders about all the tribes who lived and live in California. He was also sharing with them how they communicated, since there were over 100 different languages spoken.

The 4th Graders dressed up in clothing that was worn by some California Native American tribes. The two students on the right are dressed in more traditional clothing, before the Europeans arrived and the students on the left are dressed in clothing that was influenced by European customs.
