Volume 7/Issue 4 Assumption Life August 20, 2025
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Prayer to Mary, Assumed into Heaven
You who are most blessed in the vision of God: of God the Father who exalted you among all creatures, of God the Son who willed that you bear Him as your Son and that you should be His Mother, of God the Holy Spirit who accomplished the human conception of the Savior in you.
Amen
Together we can
Follow Through
If you say it, mean it, and if you mean it, follow through.
Kids know when you mean it and when you don't.
If you say, "I will read a story at 8:00 after pajamas are on and teeth are brushed," and your kids aren't ready by 8:00; kindly point out the time and put the kids to bed without reading.
Be encouraging by saying, "You can try again tomorrow.”
Virtue of the month
Virtue of the Month: Orderliness
Orderliness means: Keeping oneself physically clean and neat and one's belongings in good order
Saintly Spotlight:
Our guide for the virtue of Orderliness is Saint Benedict. One of his greatest contributions was writing the "Rule of Saint Benedict," a guide for his monks on how to live together in community. The Rule wasn't meant to be difficult; it was designed to create a peaceful, productive, and balanced environment where everyone knew what to do and how to help each other.
This shows us that order helps a community thrive! Just like school rules help our classrooms run smoothly, the "Rule of Saint Benedict" helped his community focus on what was most important. This week, let's appreciate the rules and routines that bring order to our school and family life.

Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School,
What a great start to the new year! Lots of smiling faces from the kiddos walking into school ready to learn. It is Day 2 of the next 180 days and already I am seeing great learning taking place as well as getting our students into the routines of school!
First days of school are always a little exciting and there are so many firsts! First lunch, first recess, first carline, first assembly, first free dress! The teachers and staff are working even during their recess breaks to make sure students understand the school expectations. It goes a long way to assure that 2025-2026 is an almost perfect school year!
Our junior high students and teachers gathered today and will continue tomorrow to build community, foster leadership, and to become the role models of the school during Vision Day. This event sets the tone for our Junior High students for the rest of the year.
Tomorrow, Thursday, August 21, our teachers meet all of our families at our annual Back to School Night in the church. Our Junior High team will be meeting with our Junior High parents IN THE CHURCH (note the change from a previous parent email) at 6:30 p.m. All other parents will join us at the church at 7 p.m. for an all school welcome before we head into classrooms at 7:25 p.m. Please note there is no child care at this event. We hope that families can send at least ONE parent representative to our sessions to learn about their student's academic year.
This Sunday, I welcome ALL OUR PARENTS and students to our FIRST school-sponsored liturgy at the Church of the Assumption at 10 a.m. At this liturgy, we will present our Class of 2034 and Class of 2035 to our parish. We welcome ALL families not just members of our parish because this is a welcome and celebration of our entire community! ALL students who wear their school uniform will receive a free dress pass from our teachers and me! All families who bring their students in school uniform to this Mass will receive a parent hour. You will receive a Free Dress Pass that you turn in to your classroom teacher the free dress day with your name on the back to receive the free dress as well as the parent hour.
After our Mass, the parish has invited our families to attend Family Fun Day in our school parking lot for food, fun, and games. It has become the welcome event of the August! Please come ready to meet people, play, and build our amazing community. And if you want parent hours you can also help set up on Saturday morning! Sign up here.
It has been an amazing few days of school! Your students are getting to know each other, their teachers, and their school! Together, we can do great things!
Sincerely,
Lana Rocheford
Principal

Parent/Teacher Handbook Corner
LATE ARRIVALS/TARDINESS
Students are expected to be in assembly lines by 8:00 a.m.
Tardiness, even if only a minute or two is most disruptive to the entire class once teaching has begun. Every effort should be made by the parent to ensure that students are conscientious about being on time. Excessive tardiness may also be grounds for behavioral probation.
Any student coming after the 8:00 a.m. second bell and not in line during school assembly is
tardy. After the student body has entered their classrooms, all late students must check in at the office. Students coming from medical/dental/or optical appointments are to request a dated form from the doctor as to not be marked tardy. Late students after 8:20 a.m. must be signed into the school office by the parent or driver noting the time of arrival. This is a safety precaution.
A student arriving after morning recess will be considered a half day absent.
“Excessive tardiness” is being late four (4) times per trimester or a total of 12 times per school year. A letter will go home from the principal if tardies are excessive.
Junior High students with over 4 tardies in one trimester will be given a category 2 referral and will be required to serve an after school detention. Junior High students with four or more tardies within two weeks before a JH Dance will not be permitted to attend.
Some tuition assistance agencies require attendance reports from schools and will make decisions on awards based on these attendance reports.
Excessive tardies interfere with academic progress, reduce instructional time, and prevent students from reaching their full potential. It is essential that students arrive on time each day, ready to learn and participate fully from the start of the school day. An accurate record of tardies and absences of a half-day or more shall be recorded in the school register.
