Assumption Life: Volume 7/Issue 2
August 6, 2025
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Today is the Feast Day of the Transfiguration of the Lord
O God, whom no eye has ever seen, you have revealed your glory in the transfigured face of your Son. Through his voice, you have spoken your Word to us. Give light to our eyes; make us attentive to the Gospel, for in baptism we have become his brothers and sisters and your children. Hear us throuh this same beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
(Magnificat, Volume 27, No. 6 p. 85)
Together we can
Prepare our students for school using these Back to School Hacks:
1. Start your school year bedtime routine now.
- Don't wait until next week to get your students in bed in preparation for the early wake up call!
- No screen time 1 hour before bedtime.
- Bathe, lay out student uniforms, place backpacks and shoes by the door.
- Read a story together.
2. Talk to your students about lunches and snacks they want and enjoy.
4. Create a public space in the home without distractions to work on homework.
Doing homework in a bedroom can provide too many distractions and not a lot of supervision. A kitchen or dining room table where you can see the work as well as computer screens is ideal.
5. For our younger kids, practice buttons and zippers on pants and shorts so they can use the bathroom independently.
6. Practice seat belt safety but also teach them how to unbuckle and buckle their own seatbelts and carseats to help with our carline.

Principal's Message
Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School,
It may feel a little like you JUST heard from Assumption School, but we are getting ourselves ready for that weekly newsletter that provides updates for our wonderful Assumption community.
This week, I thought I'd share some updates about our facility. You may know Mr. Larry Clement, facility manager, as the guy who waves to you every morning and afternoon during our carline sipping his iced tea, but did you know he spends the entire summer coordinating and facilitating improvements around the campus. Most of his summer is spent deep cleaning each learning space and office space from top to bottom to make sure all our faculty and staff get a fresh start for the new year. He also makes sure all the classrooms have the right amount of chairs, desks, and tables for our growing student population. This year, at the start of the summer, Mr. Clement built and installed a new push gate next to our 8th grade classroom. This new gate allows us to secure our inner campus more effectively. You can also thank Mr. Clement for a new water filling station in the school corridor next to our Upper Grade Bathrooms. And finally, there is a fresh coat of paint inside our school bathrooms and in areas around campus. We are so grateful for Mr. Clement and his hard work this entire summer.
Of course, Mr. Clement is not the only one preparing for the new year. Our new 25-26 PTG Board recently met to discuss how they will be welcoming our community back to school. They are looking for Parent Ambassadors to new families (there is a zoom orientation meeting Thursday night) as well as welcoming everyone on Visiting Day! We are also so grateful to our new School Board for their willingness to learn more about the Diocese expectations for School Boards by signing up for their evening workshops in August and September. The office is now open for regular hours (7:30 - 3:30) thanks to Mrs. Viviani and Ms. Seto. And our new teachers and teacher leaders have been preparing for the new year! It has been so great to see and hear the bustling around campus.
We received sad news from our community this week. We recently learned of the passing of Mr. Ruben Da Silva on August 2. The Da Silvas were a supportive family that moved to Brentwood before their children graduated from Assumption School. Mr. Da Silva was a great supporter of Assumption CYO sports. He welcomed many team parties at his San Leandro restaurant Rubiano's and spent years as a coach. We pray with those families who knew the Da Silvas for Teresa, his wife, and their two children as they mourn the loss of Ruben.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
With gratitude,
Lana Rocheford
Principal

Virtue of the Month Corner: The Virtue of Orderliness
Orderliness means keeping oneself clean and neat, and one’s belongings in good order. Orderliness looks like having neat and tidy work spaces.
How does my desk or workspace look?
Do I throw in papers and pencils without thinking, or do I use the folders and binders I have to keep everything organized?
Keeping our things in order models how we are called to be stewards of creation and help bring order to the earth. Even though it seems like a small thing to keep our desk neat, this little thing gives glory to God.
Fun Fact of the Week:
You made it to the end. Fun fact: August 6th observes Fresh Breath Day and Wiggle Your Toes Day. Get those mints out and those bare toes wiggling through some fresh lawn grass sometime today!
