Volume 7/Issue 17 Assumption Life November 19, 2025
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Holy Mary, Mother of our Community, pray for us.
Intercede for our entire school family as we approach Thanksgiving, that gratitude may fill our hearts, and that we may recognize Your presence in every blessing—in our friendships, our learning, and our time together.
May the peace of Christ guide us all in the busy weeks ahead, and may Your loving example inspire us to treat one another with kindness and patience.
We ask this through Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Together we can
Positive Time-Out
People do better when they feel better. Positive time-out helps us cool off and feel better.
1) Create a time-out space with your children. Let them decide what it would look like and what is in it.
2) Let them give it a special name.
3) When they are upset ask, "Would it help to go to your
place?"
4) Model using positive time-out by going to your own special place when you are upset.
Virtue of the month
Gratitude, also known as Thanksgiving Definition of Gratitude: Thankful disposition of mind and heart
Sacred Scripture
Colossians 2:6-7
As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so live in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School,
Today, Mrs. McConnell and I had the joy of meeting with every student to talk about their progress as report cards went home. It is always inspiring to see the dedication of our students and the results of their hard work. Many are learning firsthand that effort and perseverance truly pay off! We’ve seen tremendous growth, and now we are focusing on areas for improvement, including building strong habits such as being on time and seeking teacher support when needed. As a special celebration, students with ZERO tardies will enjoy free dress on Thursday, November 20.
November has also been our month of Gratitude, and at Assumption School we know that gratitude is more than a feeling — it is something we live out through service. Our community has always been known for academic excellence, compassion, and a commitment to sharing Christ’s love with others. That spirit is strengthened every day by the way our families participate in school life.
Research consistently shows that parent involvement is one of the strongest predictors of student success, improving academic achievement, boosting confidence, and helping students feel more connected and secure at school. Studies have also found that children who volunteer and serve others experience stronger well-being, healthier relationships, and a deeper sense of purpose.
At Assumption, we see that reality in action. Whether you are an festival planner, pie baker, library helper, Fun Run coordinator, math tutor, social media content creator, field trip chaperone, or someone who quietly supports from behind the scenes — your service matters.
As teachers and staff, we know how to help students learn and grow. But with engaged, generous parents, we become a place where every child — and every family — can truly thrive.
We invite you to share the joy of our community with others. If you know families of young ones exploring Assumption School, please welcome them to our Jr. K/K Information and Social on Thursday, November 20, from 5:45–7:00 p.m., followed immediately by our PTG Friendsgiving celebration at 7:00 p.m. Both gatherings will begin in the Small Hall.
Thank you for being a community where gratitude becomes service — and service becomes love in action.
In gratitude,
Lana Rocheford
Principal

Help us prepare our Emergency Bins
As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our school community safe and prepared, we are making a small but important change to how we stock our classroom emergency “comfort food” buckets. This year, instead of relying on class-wide food donations, we're asking each student to bring their own non-perishable “comfort snack bag.”

Parent/Student Handbook Corner
LEAVING SCHOOL PREMISES/RETURNING TO SCHOOL PREMISES p. 48
At no time during the daily sessions are students allowed to leave the school grounds, even during recess or lunch periods, except by previous administration-approved arrangement. If written notice has been sent and the child is to be picked up, the parent or legal guardian must go to the office (not the classroom) to sign the child out before being permitted to leave. If someone other than the parent or guardian is picking up the child, the adult must present a signed note from the parent or guardian. Legal identification may be required before the child will be allowed to leave. The school assumes no liability in cases where students leave the premises in violation of the above policy.
If a student is leaving with another student during the school day, written permission from both parents/guardians must be sent to the classroom teacher. A phone call is not sufficient.
When returning to school premises after a mid-day appointment, the student must have a signed dated form for the teacher.
LEAVING THE SCHOOL CAMPUS p. 62
No student is allowed to leave the school grounds during school hours without explicit written permission from his or her parents. The note must be given to the classroom teacher and copied in the school office. Failure to comply with this policy will result in suspension.
CYO sports participants are to stay with their classes during the car line until their coach arrives.

Hey, congrats! You got to the end. Way to go! Fun fact:
Octopuses have three hearts: two just to pump blood through the gills and one more to circulate it to the organs. The circulating heart stops beating while an octopus swims, which explains why these cephalopods prefer crawling: swimming exhausts them.
