Volume 6/Issue 7 Assumption Life September 18, 2024
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Dear God,
Thank you that you are a loving, gracious God. Thank you that you’ve offered us forgiveness and the gift of new life in you. Thank you that your love is perfect, it never fails, and that nothing can separate us from your love.
We pray that our lives would be filled and overflowing with the power of your love so we can make a difference in this world and bring honor to you. We ask for your help in reminding us that the most important things are not what we do outwardly, it’s not based on any talent or gift, but the most significant thing we can do in this life is simply to love you and to choose to love others.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
Together we can
Letting Go
Letting go does not mean abandoning your child. It means allowing your child to learn responsibility and to feel capable.
1) Take small steps in letting go.
2) Take time for training and then step back.
3) Have faith in your child to learn from his or her mistakes.
4) Get a life so your identity doesn't depend on managing your child's life.

Student/Parent Handbook Corner
CELL PHONES/PERSONAL DEVICES - p. 58
Students are not allowed to use cell phones or wearable communication technology (including but not limited to smartwatches and wireless earphones) on campus without faculty permission and supervision. If a student must use a personal device off campus after school, the device must be turned off or on do-not-disturb mode and kept in the student’s backpack. The student may only remove the device from their backpack once the student has left the Assumption campus. If a device is brought on campus and used without permission, the device will be confiscated. The first time a device is confiscated the student will receive a category one referral. The second time a device is confiscated the student will receive a category two referral and a conference will be called with the principal, parents and student to discuss the issue. Personal wireless earphones should not be worn during recess, passing periods, or when not using school devices for student learning.
OUR POLICY ON SMARTWATCHES:
Based on the current policy, Smartwatches should be turned off and placed in backpacks BUT this seems unrealistic for a Smartwatch. So we ask students to place their Smartwatch on Do Not Disturb or Airplane mode. Students should not use watches for texting, phone calls, test taking etc. during school hours. Students found to be using their Smartwatches for texting, phone calls, test taking during school hours and on school property will receive the same consequences as above.

Dear Families and Friends,
Last night, our Assumption CYO Cross Country had their first meet and while Assumption Life sat on my computer, I rushed down to Fremont to cheer our team, including my own son! Thanks to the great coaches and families who made the first meet a success. The kiddos did such a great job finishing strong across that finish line with a few of our athletes getting within the top 30.
And so you are receiving our newsletter a day late. I hope to see you all tonight, Thursday, for our first PTG Social at 7 p.m. in the Small Hall. I am excited that Mrs. Bass, Ms. Blum, and Mrs. Castillo are coming tonight to talk about how parents can support their students at home to help them succeed at school! Thank you to our faculty for making time for that! It promises to be specific to the grade levels they represent!
We are providing childcare, your child will get a free dress pass, and you get a parent hour for attending. This is an in-person event with NO zoom option. Hope to see you there!
Next week is now our yearly hug-a-festival-volunteer week! As we prepare for our Annual Aloha Festival on September 27 through September 29, I’d like you to join with me in showing a lot of appreciation to the dedicated Festival Chair Wendy Robinson and the amazing committee chairs! They, like their amazing predecessors, have committed so many hours, organizing, planning and coordinating a Fall Festival for our community. They also have recruited a team of committed booth chairs to support them.
And finally, they have encouraged you (our families and friends) to help out by signing up to volunteer in many ways! Our Fall Festival truly is a homegrown, safe, and friendly place to celebrate what makes Assumption School so special ... our kids. And it can't happen without our wonderful parents. So, hug a festival volunteer, my friends, and I hope in essence you also hug yourselves because you’ve signed up to help this school wide effort. Together we can do great things!
I hope to see you at our Opening Ceremonies SEPTEMBER 27 STARTING AT 5:15 p.m. (CALENDAR CHANGE) where we celebrate the students (they are on stage singing their hearts out), welcome local civic and city leaders, and countdown to the opening of our festival.
With a lot of love and appreciation,
Lana Rocheford
Principal
