Volume 6/Issue 33 Assumption Life April 9, 2025
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Each Wednesday of Lent, we’ll share a 3-minute retreat for prayer and reflection on your computer or phone. Pause to reflect on Scripture and use the arrows to move at your own pace.
5th Sunday 3-minute retreat - Love Lasts Forever
Together we can
Distract & Redirect
Distraction and redirection can change the energy of a situation.
1) Remove your child from the TV knobs and redirect, "You can play with the blocks."
2) Distract by becoming the tickle monster.
3) Admit your part in a power struggle, and start again after some time-out.
4) In the middle of an argument, tell your teenager you are on his or her side.
Virtue of the week
Magnanimity Also known as: Benevolence
Definition of Magnanimity:
Seeking with confidence to do great things in God; literally "having a large soul"
Prayer for Magnanimity: Sacred Heart of Jesus, You loved us even to the point of death. Give me a big heart! Give me Your heart! Help me to love others with all my heart!
Magnanimity Looks Like:
Having an awareness of the goodness of God in yourself
Magnanimity Sounds Like:
At baptism, I received God's grace and became His child.

Parent/Teacher Handbook Corner
Uniform Policy
Free Dress Policy
Out-of-uniform privilege is given occasionally for special events. Free dress should allow students to be comfortable, safe, and inoffensive while participating in school-sponsored activities, including PE. Parents are responsible for seeing that children wear appropriate clothing to school. Free Dress passes may not be used on liturgy days, unless specially directed.
- Walking-length shorts may be worn during shorts season.
- All clothing must not be see-through or sheer. Mid-thigh shirts/sweaters or skirts must be worn as a layer if there are any questions about the sheerness of pants or skirts.
- No short shirts or skirts. No spaghetti-strap tops. No pajama pants are permitted.
- Logos, mottos, or graphics on clothing must be appropriate for a Catholic TK - 8th grade school setting.
- Sandals, hiking boots, clogs, or crocs are NOT permitted.
- Undergarments must not be visible.
- No excessively baggy pants or excessively large shirts are permitted.
The School Administration makes the final decision regarding free dress.
If children come to school inappropriately dressed, parents will be called to bring a change of clothes.
PARENTS: PLEASE LOOK AT YOUR CHILD AS S/HE DASHES OFF TO SCHOOL SO THAT WE WILL NOT BE PUT IN THE POSITION OF HAVING TO SEND A STUDENT BACK HOME TO CHANGE CLOTHES.

Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School,
As we approach the final days of Lent, we enter into Holy Week, a sacred time filled with meaningful events:
-
Palm Sunday: This Sunday, we commemorate Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Services are at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and noon on Sunday.
-
Reconciliation: On Monday, students in grades 2 through 7 will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, fostering spiritual growth and reflection.
-
Annual Seder Meal Prayer Service: Hosted by our 7th grade on Spy Wednesday at 11 a.m., this service offers a profound connection to the traditions that prefigure the Last Supper. A heartfelt thank you to the Knights of Columbus at Assumption Parish for their generous donation of all necessary items for this event. In previous years, each class contributed food items, which often led to waste. The Knights have graciously provided and prepared the symbolic foods for each faith family, a tremendous gift to our school community. The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal service organization dedicated to principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism, empowering Catholic men to live their faith through service to the Church and community.
-
Stations of the Cross: On Holy Thursday at 11 a.m., our 3rd and 6th grades will lead us in this solemn journey reflecting on Christ's passion and sacrifice.
🎭 Celebrating Our Drama Club's Success
Congratulations to our Drama Club for their outstanding performances of Into the Woods Jr.! The three shows, including an encore on Tuesday for students and teachers, showcased the incredible talent and dedication of our students. A special thank you to all the parent volunteers, friends of Assumption, and former and current teachers who helped bring this magical performance to life.
📚 Diverse Learners Day: Embracing Our Differences
Thank you to our parent volunteers and friends of Assumption, including former and current teachers, who participated in our Diverse Learners Day storytime. This day reminds us of the power of inclusion and helps our students understand and appreciate the many ways people learn, experience the world, and contribute to our community.
💛 Annual Week of Giving: Bridging the Gap
We are gearing up for our Annual Week of Giving, where we aim to raise the final $25,000 to meet our annual fundraising goal. Due to the abrupt end of EANS 2 funding in late March—federal aid intended to help non-public schools recover from pandemic learning loss—we are feeling the effects of this loss with only two and a half months left in the school year. This funding supported three essential members of our learning team who were working directly with teachers to support continued academic growth.
Because of the success we’ve seen in student achievement, we’ve committed to keeping these supports by including them in next year’s budget—making this Week of Giving more important than ever. As shared at the State of the School, only 82% of our planned revenue comes from tuition. That means, on average, each student needs about $1,000 in fundraising support to fully bridge the gap.
Want to double your donation? Check with your employer about donation matching programs through Benevity, a platform that connects employee donations to registered nonprofit causes. Companies like Google, UPS, ADP, Levi, Visa, and Merck participate in matching gifts through Benevity. If you or your family members work for these companies, you might be able to make an even bigger impact for our school.
📵 Coming Soon: Screen-Free Week (May 5–9)
We are excited to celebrate our second annual Screen-Free Week! From May 5–9, we’ll limit screen time across campus and encourage students and families to unplug at home too. Research shows that reducing screen time can improve sleep, boost focus, enhance social connections, and reduce stress. Plan now for some fun, unplugged activities—more game nights, outdoor fun, or even… handwritten notes! I look forward to fewer emails and more doodles. 😉
👶 A Sweet Start for Our Youngest Trojans
A final thank you to our incredible PTG, School Board, faculty, and parent volunteers for helping make our TK and Kindergarten Social on Tuesday night such a success! Our new and current families mingled, played, and created lasting memories with photo ops, souvenir shirts, and some delicious pizza. A special shout-out to our amazing 6th and 7th grade Junior High helpers who brought energy, fun, and big smiles all evening. You made the event welcoming and joyful for everyone!
Much love and appreciation,
Lana Rocheford
Principal
