Volume 6/Issue 31 Assumption Life March. 26, 2025
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Each Wednesday of Lent, we’ll share a 3-minute retreat for prayer and reflection on your computer or phone. Pause to reflect on Scripture and use the arrows to move at your own pace.
3rd Sunday 3 minute retreat - Nothing is Impossible for God
"I tend to get caught up in the “shoulds” as I go through my day: I should be strong enough to deal with the fact that my grandpa is dying; I should be able to get through a tough day at work; I should be able to help a struggling friend.
But when I take time to refocus and pray, I’m often reminded that I should be relying on God.
It’s through opening my life to God, allowing Him to be present in everything that I do, that I acknowledge that all things are possible for and with God.
God will help me deal with the fact that my grandpa is dying. God will get me through a tough day at work. God will help me with a friend who is struggling." - Craig Sidol, resident minister at John Carroll University.
Together we can
Validate Feelings
1) Allow children to have their feelings so they can learn they are capable of dealing with them.
2) Don't fix, rescue, or try to talk children out of their feelings.
3) Validate their feelings: "I can see you are really (angry, upset, sad).
4) Then stop talking and have faith in your children to work it through.
Virtue of the week
Moderation Also known as: Restraint Definition of Moderation: Attention to balance in one's life
Prayer for Moderation: Dear Jesus, help me to keep a balance in my life, using created things properly and in the right amount that is best for me. I need Your help to set limits for myself in doing things that I enjoy.
Moderation Looks Like:
- Taking the time each day to pray
- Taking the time each day to rest
- Taking the time each day to eat
- Taking time to do your homework
- Not spending too much time on the computer or watching TV
Moderation Sounds Like:
- I spent time praying today.
- I have to go to bed on time.
- It's time to eat.
- I spent some time doing my homework today
- I did not spend too much time on the computer or watching TV

Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School,
March is Women’s History Month, a time to honor the incredible contributions of women throughout history. This year, we are excited to celebrate by welcoming Angela Dalton, an acclaimed children’s book author, to speak to our students about her book, To Boldly Go, which tells the inspiring story of Nichelle Nichols, the groundbreaking actress from Star Trek. Ms. Dalton will be presenting to two classes in the Small Hall on Thursday, thanks to the generous support of the Assumption Foundation and the efforts of our School Board JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Committee. This initiative is part of the JEDI committee’s three-year plan to bring diverse voices and stories to our students, ensuring representation that reflects and uplifts our community.
Additionally, I invite all of you to attend the 2025 State of the School presentation during our PTG Social this Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Small Hall and virtually on Zoom. This is a valuable opportunity to hear about our progress, vision, and goals for the years ahead. Topics will include enrollment, faith life, academic success, parent participation, and finances—including fundraising goals. Your engagement and support are vital to our school’s continued success. Childcare will be provided onsite, and we encourage all families to attend either in person or online.
Additionally, I hope you will join us for our school-sponsored Eat Pray Give Stations of the Cross and Soup Prayer Service this Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Church. This is a meaningful opportunity to come together in prayer and reflection during Lent. We are looking for student readers for the Stations of the Cross—spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. I will be there to pass out free dress passes to students who attend and a parent hour to participating families. Teachers in Junior High are offering service hours to those who participate. If your child is interested in reading, please email me, and I will send you the script so they can practice beforehand.
We look forward to seeing many of you at these upcoming events as we celebrate the strong women who inspire us and continue working together for the future of our school. We also keep our Class of 2025 in our prayers as they make important decisions about their high school journeys. Many of our 8th graders have received their acceptance letters from local Catholic high schools, and we are so proud of their hard work and achievements!
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Love,
Lana Rocheford
Principal
