Assumption Life: Volume 5/Issue 6 September 5, 2023
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
SAINT TERESA OF CALCUTTA DAILY PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help us to spread your fragrance everywhere we go. Flood our souls with your spirit and life. Penetrate and possess our whole being so utterly that our lives may only be a radiance of yours. Shine through us and be so in us that every soul we come in contact with may feel your presence in our soul. Let them look up and see no longer us, but only Jesus. Stay with us and then we shall begin to shine as you shine, so to shine as to be light to others. The light, O Jesus, will be all from you. None of it will be ours. It will be you shining on others through us. Let us thus praise you in the way you love best by shining on those around us. Let us preach you without preaching, not by words, but by our example; by the catching force - the sympathetic influence of what we do, the evident fullness of the love our hearts bear to you.
Amen.
September 5 is the Feast Day of St. Teresa of Calcutta
Together we can
Natural Consequences
Children develop resiliency and capability by experiencing the natural consequences of their choices.
1) Avoid lectures or, "I told you so."
2) Show empathy: "You're soaking wet, that must be uncomfortable."
3) Be comforting without rescuing: "A warm shower might help.
4) Validate feelings: "Sounds like that was very embarrassing.”

Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School,
We are three weeks into school and our wonderful students and families are really getting into the swing of things. We are seeing a drop in tardies, lots of great smiles at assemblies, and lots of learning happening in all our classrooms. We are also still focusing on our routines and procedures in the classroom. Did you know that a researcher in London proved that it takes 66 days to form a new habit? We are only on Day 13 of school. Stay steadfast in the work you are all doing and make sure to create solid study skills and school habits!
Speaking of good habits, we are still making sure that our students are wearing proper uniforms daily at school. Please review our school uniform code in our Parent Student Handbook and in our registration packet.
- For our students in 5th through 8th Grades, students not in school uniform will receive a verbal warning for the first offense, then receive a Category 1 referral for being out of uniform for subsequent offenses during a trimester. Wild Card free dress passes can be used if students have them (Wild Card free dress passes are given for SLE recognition and during special events.)
- For our students in TK through 4th Grades, a verbal reminder to students, a parent notification and partnership, then loss of free dress will take place for students unexcused and out of uniform.
When students come to school, we expect them to truly represent Assumption School. Thank you for your support.
We are excited to have our Class of 2024 host our first Faith Family Get to Know Each Other Activity for Grades K through 7 tomorrow. Faith families are cross grade group activities led by our 8th graders. This is in preparation for our first School Mass on Friday for the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We are proud of our Class of 2024 for stepping into their leadership roles.
This Friday marks the end of our STAR Benchmark assessments in Reading and Math. Teachers will review these scores and develop goals with their students in preparation for the Student Parent Teacher Conferences in October. Sign ups for these conferences will be sent in two weeks.
Finally, don’t forget to sign up for your shift for the Festival! This is a reminder to dedicate five hours or a donation of $150 to the festival to fulfill our parent hour requirement for our big event. I will share that it is WAY more fun to work a shift or two! Here is the link for the sign ups!
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Lana Rocheford
Principal

SCHOOL SUNDAY MASS SEPTEMBER 10 10 A.M. - 11 A.M.:
If you attend any of our calendared Sunday school-sponsored Masses including SUNDAY (9/10/23) at 10 a.m. hosted by SLT. If your students wear their school uniform, you can earn a parent hour and your student earns a free dress. All are welcome.
How does it work:
- Plan to attend the 10 a.m. Mass in-person with your student in FULL UNIFORM.
- At the end of the Mass, look for a staff person (or Mrs. Rocheford) who will have Free Dress Passes to give to students.
- Place your LAST NAME and Grade(s) on the Free Dress Pass.
- The student turns in the free dress pass on the ASSIGNED SCHOOL MASS FREE DRESS DAY on the PASS to your students' teacher to count you as a family who participated. (only one hour per family not per student).
Small print: Only in-person school- or class-sponsored Assumption Parish Sunday Masses count toward service hours. Those masses are on our school calendar and are usually twice a month.

Hey, congrats! You got to the end. Way to go! Did you know?: On September 8th we celebrate the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary refers to the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary by her parents St. Anne and St. Joachim. Happy Birthday, Mary!
