Assumption Life: Volume 5/Issue 32 March 20, 2024
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Fifth Week of Lent
For the weeks of lent we will be sharing a link to a 3 minute retreat where you can take a short prayer break right at your computer or phone. Spend some quiet time reflecting on a Scripture passage. After each screen, a Continue button will appear. Click it when you are ready to move on. If you are new to online prayer, the basic timing of the screens will guide you through the experience.
Week 5 - 3 minute retreat - The Eyes of Faith
“A while back I got a very painful rash in the corner of one of my eyes. My face swelled up, and my eyes were sore. I could not see very well at all. And what I did see, I saw through painful eyes. I found that I felt down and acted grumpy. My pain affected my vision, and my vision affected how I lived my life.
How would it be to look at the world around us through the eyes of faith that Jesus came to tell us about? He told us that God is love and that we are all children of God. How would it be to look at all we meet as if we were encountering a brother or sister? We would look more joyfully and compassionately at the world around us, I think. And that truthful vision would allow us to get about building the Kingdom of God.”
- Jim Deeds
Together we can
Connection Before Correction
Creating a connection before correction is a great example of kindness and firmness.
- "I love you and the answer is, no"
- "You are more important to me than your grades. I wonder what your grades mean to you?"
- "I love you and have faith that we can find a respectful solution."
- "I know how much you want that, and I'm sorry you can't have it now."

Drop Off in the Morning REMINDER
Assumption School prides itself on keeping members of our community safe but needs your partnership to do so. ALL PEDESTRIANS using the outer parish parking lot MUST USE THE FULTON STREET SIDEWALK BY THE CHURCH AND RECTORY and WALKTHROUGH GATE BY THE SECOND GRADE.
Drop off for school begins at 7:40 a.m. All students dropped off before 7:40 a.m. will be brought to Extended Care except for SLT members who are supervised by the SLT moderator. Please note if you are dropping off your student ANYTIME before 7:40 a.m. you will be charged Extended Care fees billed by the ½ hour.
PEDESTRIAN GUIDELINES
- On Fulton Street: Use the sidewalk by the church and the walkthrough gate by 2nd grade to enter the school from the outer parking lot. DO NOT use the pathway along the black wrought-iron gate OR the school’s exit driveway as this pedestrian path has a significant blind spot that puts pedestrians in danger.
- Parents planning on staying for assembly should park in the basketball courts or as directed by staff and walk to the identified crosswalk (the cones) to cross traffic. A staff member will stop traffic to cross you at that point.
- On School Street: Use the walkthrough gate by the Science Lab. DO NOT USE this area as a turnaround. Do not block traffic in the neighborhood.
DRIVING GUIDELINES
- Please DRIVE SLOWLY. Our Morning Drop Off has a BLIND SPOT in the parish parking lot.
- A staff member will be stationed to help direct traffic as needed by the school carpool exit area in the morning.
- STAY IN THE VEHICLE LINE DURING CARLINE. FOLLOW THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. Do not swerve around the line to leave the parking lot or leave through the arrival gate. If you are unable to wait in the line, please legally park in the outer lot and walk to the classroom.
- SHARE WITH THE ANYONE WHO PICKS UP OR DROPS OFF YOUR STUDENT.

Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School,
I was so happy to see so many families attend our yearly State of the School last Thursday. It was a reveal of so many great things happening! It is so important that our families know the history, impact, and vision of the school. Here is a link to the slide deck that I shared. We are so grateful for all our returning families who have completed registration payments as well as completed the Registration through Powerschool Infosnap. If you are unsure abiout re-registration, please check your email for the Powerschool Infosnap Registration. You have been sent a specific registration link for your student. Please use this link and do not use the application link. Exciting steps to get ready for our new year!
This Friday at 7 p.m. in the church the Parish is providing an opportunity for Lenten Reflection with their annual Lenten Retreat. The Adoration and Sessions on Friday night and Saturday morning focus on the Stations of the Cross and Passion of Christ. This same Passion story will be shared on Sunday's 10 a.m. Palm Sunday Mass which is also our 1st Grade School Mass. Students in school uniform can earn a free dress pass and parents can earn a parent hour for attending the 10 a.m. Sunday liturgy. (A correction - This Sunday is NOT a Sacramental Preparation Day for 2nd grade families).
Next week is our most holy of weeks starting with Palm Sunday and ending with Easter Sunday. Assumption School will have a series of important school-wide events next week.
- March 25 - Holy Monday: Grades 2 - 8 Reconciliation Services for lower grades at 10:45 a.m. and upper grades at 1:15 p.m. Regular Dismissal and FULL UNIFORM.

- March 27 - Spy Wednesday: 7th Grade hosted Last Supper/Seder Prayer Service and Faith Family Activity. Each student is asked to bring one item to help represent the significance of the Jewish Seder to the Christian faith. Click here to find out what each class should bring. 2 p.m. Dismissal FULL UNIFORM.
