Assumption Life: Volume 5/Issue 30 March 6, 2024
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
Third Week of Lent
For the weeks of lent we will be sharing a link to a 3 minute retreat where you can take a short prayer break right at your computer or phone. Spend some quiet time reflecting on a Scripture passage. After each screen, a Continue button will appear. Click it when you are ready to move on. If you are new to online prayer, the basic timing of the screens will guide you through the experience.
Week 3 - 3 Minute Retreat - Living in Hope
“When a new boss takes over, everyone in the office gets a bit nervous. A new person on top usually means change, and many people fear change, or at least the unknown. Jesus understood. He was preaching some different messages. When explaining how to handle a hurt, it was no longer an eye for eye, but now the lesson was about forgiving 77 times. But Jesus respected his past while fulfilling all that was promised there. He came to fulfill not abolish. He came to breathe new life, but it was a life that had been anticipated in the Old Testament. He’s the new boss who respects everyone and is trying to bring out the best in all.
Jesus, guide me in how I can help fulfill your laws, especially those of love.” -Peggy Webber
Together we can
Closet Listening
Hang out with your kids and don't force conversation by asking questions. They might start talking.
- During the week take time to sit quietly near your kids.
- If they ask what you want, say "I just wanted to hang out with you for a few minutes."
- If they talk, just listen without judging, defending, or explaining.
- If they don't talk, just enjoy their company.

Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School,
WOWOWOWOWOW. What a great auction event last Saturday! Havana Nights was such a success! Even former principal Jean Schroeder and former Kindergarten teacher (and legend) Marilyn Domin raved about the event! I am overwhelmed by the amazing support of our friends and families who not just came to the event but also donated their time, treasure, and talent to our efforts. I am so moved by the generosity of our community. Thank you again to Zoe Lopez and her team for making this event a success.
On Saturday, we presented a new Fund-A-Need that has gained some amazing support. After a successful campaign for getting a new play structure last Auction, we are hoping to get support for updating our heating system by including air conditioning, air filtration and heating in all classrooms. This important upgrade will replace the 60-year-old boiler that currently serves the classrooms with new units that would keep learning spaces temperature controlled and would supply filtered air. On Saturday, we set a first goal of $30,000 and made about $25,000 in one night! Reaching this first goal could open the door to matching grants and funding opportunities to complete the project. You can donate here.
I am inviting all families and friends of Assumption School to attend the 2024 State of the School PTG Social in the Small Hall in person and via Zoom on Thursday, March 14 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The State of the School is my opportunity to share the vision and mission of the school, provide the schoolwide learning progress, share the financial viability of the school including enrollment trends, and update our community on our facilities. During this presentation, we will also hear from President Allison Fargo of the Assumption Foundation, a non-profit organization whose only purpose is to support the school.
We hope to have at least one parent representative at this presentation in person or via Zoom. Please note that Zoom is for viewing the presentation only. Chatrooms and comments will not be monitored. Childcare is provided and parents receive a parent hour as well as get on the list for a free dress pass on a later date.
There are lots of events happening this week including 4th Grade's Field Trip to Old Town Sacramento on Thursday, International Day this Friday, and our Eat Pray Give Soup and Stations this Friday. Next week, we say farewell to our 6th graders as the spend a week in the redwoods at Caritas Creek, a science camp with a focus on faith formation. We have also had some amazing life long learning highlights over the last week, including Academic Decathlon, Spelling Bee, and the conclusion of STAR Second Trimester Assessments in ELA and Math.
Assumption School is a great place to be!
In partnerhship,
Lana Rocheford
Principal
Online Registration emailed Monday, March 4
Current families should check their emails because the 2024-2025 Online Registration has begun.
This online registration is an important step in securing your spot for next year and provides key updated information including contact information, the tuition and parent agreement, and permissions for the school. Please read your tuition and parent agreement which includes a parent hours requirement for families to support the festival and auction. It also has a link to the Registration Packet for the 2024-2025 school year.
The registration fee ($450) for the first child is due on March 15 and for most families, will be taken out of FACTS, unless you have otherwise made arrangements. Remaining sibling registration fees are due in May.

Hey, congrats! You got to the end. Way to go! Fun fact: The first National Woman’s History Day took place on February 28, 1909, in New York City. It commemorated the one-year anniversary of the 15,000 women who marched in the garment workers’ strikes.
