Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
First Week of Lent
For the weeks of lent we will be sharing a link to a 3 minute retreat where you can take a short prayer break right at your computer or phone. Spend some quiet time reflecting on a Scripture passage. After each screen, a Continue button will appear. Click it when you are ready to move on. If you are new to online prayer, the basic timing of the screens will guide you through the experience.
Week 1 - 3 Minute Retreat
“ Today’s retreat verse focuses on our desire for renewal and a “clean heart.” It’s our desire for a new start, to “clean up our act” and to have good intentions and desires. Falling short and making mistakes is part of being human, so we can sometimes feel like failures. The really good news here, however, is that with God’s help a new start is possible. We can shine again with God’s love and start afresh. The secret is to join our desire for renewal with the overwhelming love God has for us, letting it seep in and clearing a space in our hearts.” - Brendan McManus, SJ
Together we can
Don’t Back Talk Back
Talking back to your child models the exact opposite of what you want to teach.
1) Respond with dignity and respect.
2) Validate feelings. "Sounds like you are really angry."
3) Take responsibility for your part. "| realize I talked disrespectfully to you by sounding bossy or critical.
4) "Let's take some time to calm down until we can be respectful.
5) "Do you know I really love you?"

Dear Friends and Families of Assumption School,
Boy, our Assumption School community really rallied last weekend at our School Gala and Live Auction. Lots of fun and laughter were had by all who were in attendance and the generosity was overwhelming. We are still waiting for final numbers so I don’t have what we raised in the end but I will say we sure had fun doing it! And it wasn’t just the folks who attended the auction but also our strong parent community who supported this effort by bidding at home! We have extended our Pay to Plays, Individual once in a lifetime class items, and some last chance Auction items to March 8. Check out what is available by clicking here.
A HUGE thank you to our Auction chair, Damian Carroll, and his committee of dedicated volunteers who made this happen including a great decorating committee, raffle committee, dessert auction committee and donations committee! And not enough can be said to our alumni volunteer who dedicated so much time to this years’ effort Renee Weiland, who’s son Daniel graduated last year. I am hopeful we raised enough to get bids for a new play structure in our play yard as well raise money for the school. This effort in partnership with all fundraising helps keep our tuition rates as low as possible.
Speaking of tuition, after careful consideration and in partnership with Fr. John Carrillo, our parochial administrator, and in consultation with the School Board of Assumption School, Assumption School will increase tuition rates for next year 5.99%. The increase takes into consideration the significantly large teacher and administrator salary and benefit increase of 10% and 6% increase for all school staff that the Diocese of Oakland has enacted for the 2023-2024 school year as well as fixed costs of the school increasing. Wages and benefits take up about 80 percent of the total expenses of the school. A more detailed report of this increase will be discussed at the PTG Social and State of the School March 16.

This week, Assumption School will be sending our current families their online registration forms from Powerschool Enrollment. Look out for an email from Powerschool on Friday through Monday to start your online registration process. The first child registration fees to hold your spots for the 2023-2024 school year as well as the online registration are due on March 17. Those families who have provided their permission for us to collect the 23-24 registration through FACTS tuition management will see this fee added this month and scheduled to be taken out on March 17. Families who would rather pay using cash or check are required to bring your registration fee for the first child to the school no later than March 17.
We are excited to welcome a number of new families through our application process and have interests in all grades. Their enthusiasm for being a part of this great community has been so wonderful. The prospective students have been enthusiastic and ready to show their learning. Thanks to YOU, our current community, for spreading the word as well as just making this place so inviting and supportive. During the week of March 17, we will be sending decision letters to prospective families. We currently have 65 applicants for our school and about 55 spots available in the school with our current enrollment numbers. If you are a current family not planning to enroll your student in the 2023-2024 school year, we don’t want you to go, but please let us know to open that spot to our prospective families.
During this solemn Lenten season, I am humbled by the opportunity to work, pray, and celebrate with all of you! It is a true celebration of the mission of our school! Tomorrow I am excited to visit our 6th graders at Caritas Creek to check in and see how they are doing. According to the recent pictures sent from Occidental, they look happy and muddy and I am unsure if they are more happy or more muddy.
Sincerely,
Lana Rocheford
Principal
Welcome to the WCEA Visiting Team
We are excited to welcome our WCEA Visiting team on March 7 through March 9 as they review our self-study and report on their findings. The team members will be visiting our learning spaces, talking with students, teachers, Fr. John, and parents throughout their stay. They will be talking to our parent leadership in PTG and School Board on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the School Gym. Parents are welcome to attend and answer questions from the team. We are excited to share our Action Plan Goals for the next 5 years with our community below and will share their findings with our community March 15. The rationale of these goals is provided in the self-study which will be available for review in the coming weeks.
Critical Goals:
- Design, implement, and assess differentiation that meets the needs of the learners. (3D)
- Support catechesis of teachers and staff in meaningful ways that enhances the religion program and faith experience of students. (3A, 3F)
- Revise and implement a schoolwide technology skills plan to support instruction and learning and can be built upon each year for students to be successful in high school and beyond. (3E)
- Encourage and promote work/life balance to retain quality staff and mitigate teacher turnover. (3H)
- Review SLE Indicators. (3E)

Hey, congrats! You got to the end. Way to go! Fun fact: Over 60 percent of college degrees awarded in the U.S. every year are earned by women. In fact, women are more likely than men to get a high school diploma as well, and the numbers are only expected to rise in the coming years. Also, March 1st is Justin Bieber’s birthday. Now you know.
