Volume 4/Issue 3 Assumption Life
August 24, 2022
Our Mission
We are Assumption Catholic School, a ministry of the Church of the Assumption. As a diverse community, we excel in academics and model Christ where each individual is safe, nurtured, respected, and treasured.
Together we pray
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month. Amen.
Continued special intentions for the Wulff family including Hayden and Hannah, graduates of Assumption School who lost their mother, Audrey Wulff to cancer in early August. Mrs. Wulff was a dear Alumni parent, supporter of Assumption School, friend to many in our community, and aunt to Ms. Scherer, Vice Principal at Assumption School.
Special intention for Baby Ancelet, newest addition to the Ancelet family, in celebration of her baptism last Saturday.
Together we can
Make Agreements
(Parents can use this tool that teachers use in the classroom!)
Teachers can make agreements with individual students or with the whole class. The process is the same.
Have a friendly discussion where students and teachers can each voice their feelings and thoughts.
Brainstorm together for solutions and find one that everyone agrees to try.
Involvement increases commitment.
Agree on a timeline.
Check in at the agreed upon time (or during the next Class Meeting) to see how things are going.
If an agreement is not being followed, ask, "What was our agreement?" This usually serves as a friendly reminder.
If the agreement does not work go through the steps again, starting with a discussion of why it didn't work.

Parent Hours Alert
SCHOOL SUNDAY MASS:
If you attend any of our calendared Sunday school-sponsored Masses including SUNDAY (8/28/22) at 10 a.m. with TK and Kindergarten's Presentation to the Parish and your students wear their school uniform, you can earn a parent hour and your student earns a free dress. All are welcome.
How does it work:
- Plan to attend the 10 a.m. Mass in-person with your student in FULL UNIFORM.
- At the end of the Mass, look for a staff person (or Mrs. Rocheford) who will have Free Dress Passes to give to students.
- Place your LAST NAME and Grade(s) on the Free Dress Pass.
- The student turns in the free dress pass on the next school day to your students' teacher to count you as a family who participated. (only one hour per family not per student)
Small print: Only in-person school- or class-sponsored Assumption Parish Sunday Masses count toward service hours. Those masses are on our school calendar and are usually twice a month.

Dear Families and Friends of Assumption School,
Visiting Day … check. First day … check. First lunch … check. First full day … check. First 2 p.m. dismissal … check. Long carline … ugh, check!
What a great start to the new school year! We have enjoyed lots of smiling students walking the halls of Assumption School. I am not the only one who loved seeing the students on campus. Today, we welcomed Margo Tammen, Controller and representative of the Department of Catholic Schools from the Oakland Diocese, to our campus for an annual visit and she was so impressed with all the wonderful work we are doing at Assumption School!
Me, too! I am so impressed with our efforts at the start of the school year. Our students are learning the ropes and I am so impressed with their willingness to support each other and their teachers. Our Junior High students and teachers gathered Tuesday and today for their ½ retreat called Vision Day. This time is spent building community and discussing expectations as the oldest in the school. This event was powerful and set the tone for our Junior High students for the rest of the year.
This Sunday, I welcome all our parents and students to our first school-sponsored Liturgy at the Church of the Assumption at 10 a.m. At this liturgy, we will present our Class of 2032 and Class of 2031 (TK and Kindergarten students) to our parish. All students who attend the Mass wearing their school uniforms will receive a free dress pass from me. All families who bring their students to this Mass receive a parent hour. Directions on how to get that parent hour and free dress pass are in this newsletter.
Next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings, students in 1st through 8th grade will be taking their Renaissance STAR Benchmark assessments in English/Language Arts (ELA) and Math. Kindergarten will be taking the ELA assessment only. Please make sure students are eating a healthy breakfast as well as get a great night’s sleep all week. Results from the Benchmark will be shared at our October Teacher/Parent Conferences.
It has been just a wonderful week full of routines and procedures, ice breakers and community builders. Your students are getting to know each other, their teachers, and their school! Together, we can do great things!
In Christ's Love,
Lana Rocheford
Principal

Hey, you made it to the end! Congratulations!
Did you get your printed School Calendar for the 2022-2023 school year? You should have received it at Visiting Day. If you didn't, a copy is waiting for you in your teacher's classroom and can be picked up at Back to School Night. We hear it is the lifeline to the events at Assumption School!
Back to School Night is returning the the Church of the Assumption. It has been held in the Gym since 2015 but before that it was always held in the Church. This year, seating, safety, and reverence has brought it back to the Church where we can welcome new families to the beauty of our parish.
Finally, we are still trying to make sure we have everyone on our distribution list. Know someone who might be missing out? Tell them to check their SPAM folders then email [email protected] to see if we have a typo.
