Students, teachers, and parent volunteers participated in Assumption's Annual Fun Run. Students completed 40 laps today with the help of Big Dog Kent and his assistant Hollywood Blake playing music and cheering them on. Thank you to our parent volunteers including Fun Run chair Mrs. Karla Meyers! With your help, we raised over $20,000 gross for our school. Our Fun Run committee will be sending emails to our families for last minute donations due by Nov. 1.

Mr. D brought students into the Maker Space this week to check out our laser cutter, 3-D printer and sphero robots. More opportunities to MAKE things in the MAKER space will take place in the coming weeks.

6th graders and Mr. Poon spend the day at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum to support their study of Ancient Civilizations and their upcoming study of Egypt. The museum is set up into rooms covering the different eras and aspects of Ancient Egypt. At the end of the visit, they even enter into a replica of a tomb and discover how Ancient Egyptians buried their dead.

On Saturday, October 5 at Thrasher Park, Trojan Dads Club members played the St. Leander Dads Club in their annual Dads Softball Game. Led by Coach Pedro Naranjo and Team Leader Dennis Sochar, many of our Assumption dads played hard. After a slow first four innings, the Trojans Dads attempted a comeback but unfortunately lost 10 - 15. We will get 'em next year, Dads!

On his 16th birthday, Ryan Ilmberger carried out an unusual family tradition: He soloed in an airplane. Like his father on his 16th birthday, Ilmberger flew an airplane by himself before he could drive a car by himself.

Two years ago, the Ilmberger family was living in the San Francisco Bay Area when they learned about the Flight Science program at Sisters High School (SHS). After visiting Sisters, and learning about the unique collaboration with Outlaw Aviation at the Sisters Airport, the family made the move to Sisters to allow Ryan to participate in the program.

Ryan set a goal to solo on his 16th birthday, the minimum age required by the FAA to solo an airplane. After a few practice touch-and-go landings in Outlaw Aviation’s Cessna 172 with Sam Monte, Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI), Monte felt Ilmberger was ready to perform the maneuvers by himself.
