8th grade hosted Assumption Parish's 8:15 Ash Wednesday liturgy with song and prayer with a strong assist from 3rd grade. Fr. John Mark Ettensohn, who finished our Parish Mission Wednesday, shared a meaningful liturgy. We are called during this Lenten season to prayer, almsgiving, and fasting as a way to bring us closer to our faith and to God.

TK and Kindergarten spread the Mardi Gras cheer on Tuesday morning, traveling through the classrooms with music, masks, and boas. It placed smiles on all the faces of our community.

Our school has officially started Kids Heart Challenge with the American Heart Association. Assumption School participates in the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge every year raising money for a cause that affects so many people in our country. This fundraiser also gets students moving and is spearheaded by our PE teacher, Mr. D. See below for how your child can get involved, stay heart healthy, and support a good cause.

Have you met the Heart Heroes yet? Each Heart Hero has a special message to keep our students’ hearts happy and healthy! And, students can earn members of the Heart Heroes when they raise life-saving donations to help those with special hearts. Just sign up online at Assumption School KHC or by downloading the FREE Kids Heart Challenge app in the App Store (search Kids Heart Challenge), available for iPhone and Android.

Our stellar 8th grade girls' volleyball season came to an end after last Saturday's Oakland Diocese playoff loss against Our Lady of Guadalupe (Fremont). It came down to a hard-fought third set where our team fell just a bit short.

Our Metro League Champions made us proud by their play and character. Their much-deserved success was a result of lots of hard work and sacrifice. Our girls showed up to practice on birthdays, during times when they were not feeling well, during holiday breaks, and while balancing other commitments. The players and coaches had lots of fun and the unique qualities that each person brought to the team made the hard work and sacrifice a little easier. The Metro League championship game was memorable. Assumption was well represented and our spirit was strong. A BIG thanks to the Assumption Community for all the support. Let's Go Trojans!

Abbie K. ('22) competed at the 2020 Dupree Dance Regionals this past weekend. She won a Platinum for her Solo on Friday and a special judges award. Abbie also won 3 more Platinums and 1 Gold for her group dances on Saturday. Good job, Abbie!

Since July 2011, all incoming 7th grade students enrolled in California schools are required to have proof of an adolescent whooping cough booster (called TDap) before starting their 7th grade year. 6th Grade families, please schedule with your pediatrician a time to get this booster before August 15. See below for information about this requirement.

Mrs. Jenna Pohlman is pleased to announce the January MUSE Band Students of the Month for their accomplishments in learning to play their instruments and participate in MUSE Band at Assumption School.

Today the Assumption School community was proud to present to Rose Johnson of the Davis Street Family Resource Center a check for more than $5,500. The money was raised through YOUR support of Assumption’s annual celebration of giving—St. Nick’s Boutique. Upon receiving this donation—a record profit for St. Nick’s!—Ms. Johnson emphasized how important it is for the 60 low-income preschoolers who depend on the event to receive a hot breakfast year-round at Davis Street.

Assumption School is proud to support this key program for the community while teaching our kids the power of giving and, in the process, the true spirit of Christmas. Thank you, Assumption School—and Davis Street thanks you, too!

Eyu M. ('16), Aaron A. ('16), and Ryzon N. ('16) played basketball representing Assumption School since 2nd grade. They continued to work hard every year to be selected to play for Bishop O’Dowd High School for four years in the freshman team, JV, and currently on Varsity. Our Alum families and Assumption School are so proud of the hard work they have put in to bring the Dragons success in basketball. They are being celebrated on their Senior Night on Feb 12, 2020 at 7pm. Congratulations to these hardworking and wonderful men!
