Celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month

What is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign held every October to educate the public about breast cancer, promote early detection, and raise funds for research. It started in October 1985 as a partnership between the American Cancer Society and a pharmaceutical company division and quickly grew into an internationally recognized campaign.

Why It Matters to Our Community

Breast Cancer Awareness Month matters because on average around 13% (or 1 in 8) women develop Breast Cancer in their lifetime and this month not only raises money for researchers but also honors survivors, remembers those lost, and offers solidarity to anyone currently fighting the disease. This month is especially near and dear to our Assumption Community because we remember the late Marnelle Ducey, a beloved teacher here that sadly lost her battle.

How Assumption School is celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

  • Raising money for breast cancer research with free dress days.
  • We showed our support by attending the Making Stride Breast Cancer walk this past Sunday in San Francisco.
  • We will announce the funds raised at an upcoming morning assembly

All the best,
