Fast Brains, Big Ideas.. Oh, Squirrel!

A few facts about ADHD: According to CDC, ADHD affects about 1 in 9 U.S. children ages 3–17. Boys are often diagnosed much earlier and at nearly twice the rate of girls. In the United States, approximately 13.3% of boys ages 3–17 have received a diagnosis compared to 7.5% of girls. ADHD can present in different ways. Some children are primarily inattentive, while others experience hyperactivity and impulsivity, or a combination. ADHD is not caused by poor parenting, laziness, or a lack of effort. Children with ADHD can have many strengths, including creativity, curiosity, energy, problem-solving, and enthusiasm. Consistent routines, clear expectations, positive reinforcement, movement opportunities, and strong communication between home and school can help students succeed. As a community, we can remember that every child is created with unique gifts and dignity. Building awareness helps us respond with understanding, patience, and support while helping each student recognize and develop their strengths.
