We know how busy life gets when the school bells stop ringing, but we also know how vital it is to keep our students' imaginations growing over the break. Reading together is such a lovely way to keep those minds active while avoiding the "summer slide."
Continuing our summer reading series, I reached out to Mrs. Castillo, our Kindergarten teacher, to see if she had any recommendations for our "Summer Life" newsletter, and she shared a real gem that students in TK through 2nd grade will absolutely love. I hope you and your children enjoy these stories as much as they do!
Pete the Cat Phonics Box Set by James Dean and Kimberly Dean
This is such an entertaining read! I love the Pete the Cat "I Can Read!" Phonics books. They’re great to encourage rhyming, decoding, and reading new stories about familiar characters!
If you want to make reading fun and stress-free, Pete the Cat is the perfect companion. These short, colorful stories use simple sight words and clever rhythms that build massive confidence in early readers. Best of all, because they feature short vowel sounds and repetitive, catchy rhymes, your child will go from listening to reading aloud all on their own. It makes mastering the building blocks of reading feel like a total celebration!
I hope you and your family find some quiet, cozy moments to curl up with these books this summer. Happy reading, and stay tuned for more teacher favorites coming soon!
