Second grade and kindergarten ordered painted lady caterpillars and have been excited to watch them grow and change in their classrooms. Each caterpillar came in a tiny container with food. It was thrilling to watch them get bigger, and then hang upside down, shed their exoskeleton, and form a chrysalis.
They wanted to be sure that there was plenty of nectar to support the new butterflies here at our school. Our lower grade science teacher, Mrs. Britt, purchased and donated a beautiful variety of flowers that are preferred by the butterflies. The second graders did a great job planting the lovely flowers in our living lab.
Finally, the butterflies emerged last week! What joy everyone had as they released the butterflies in the garden with the newly planted flowers. An unforgettable moment for all!
The students have been delighted to see their butterflies flying around campus this week.
