This Summer’s Sports Camp…

By Andy S.

This Summer, at Assumption School, Mr. Shimabukuro (also known as Mr. Shim), is running a super fun sports camp for $55/day or $275/week called “Shimmy Stars Sports Camp”. But, if you sign up earlier than May 15, there is a -$25/week discount. This summer sports camp includes sports (no surprise there) like dodgeball, basketball, baseball, football, soccer, volleyball, and hockey. Shimmy Stars Sports Camp also includes games like gaga ball, dodgeball, capture the flag, gaga ball, board games, scooter races, and a whole water day.

Mr. Shim said, “A normal day at Shimmy Stars Sports Camp is a camp where you will see everyone having a good time with a laid back demeanor. It’s not going to be like school.” When asked how he will make sure every kid has a great time at camp, he answered, “There will definitely be enough counselors to make everyone feel comfortable. It also will be a relaxed and fun setting with friends. The goal is for everyone to have a good time. I am very excited, and I hope everyone has fun.”

Here are the camp dates and times:

Session 1: June 22–26

Session 2: July 6–10
Session 3: July 13–17

Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

To sign up, please complete this registration form and return it with payment via cash or check (checks payable to Shimmy Stars Sports Camp). Please note that participants must bring their own lunch, though light snacks will be available for purchase. For questions, please contact Mr. Shim at [email protected].

🗞️ Introducing the Assumption Student News Lab!

Over the past few weeks, our creative and curious junior high students stepped behind the camera, the microphone, and the notepad as campus reporters in the Assumption Student News Lab.

Rather than sitting through traditional lectures, these young journalists managed their own newsroom and mastered a professional production pipeline:

  • The Journalistic Lens: Learning to spot timely, impactful school stories.

  • Professional Interviewing: Crafting open-ended questions and conducting respectful campus interviews.

  • The Inverted Pyramid: Structuring news articles with engaging headlines and factual openings.

  • Ethics & Integrity: Rigorously editing their work for accuracy and fairness.

Over the next few weeks, we are incredibly proud to feature their finalized news articles right here in Assumption Life. Get ready for a student-led look at our vibrant campus life—from sports highlights and teacher spotlights to behind-the-scenes glimpses of school traditions!
