On March , 2026, two teams made up of 26 Assumption students came to Moreau Catholic High School to compete against 29 teams, across the Oakland Diocese, about their knowledge of their assigned books. Both teams have been studying since December preparing for this event.
“The kids tried their best but the coaches weren’t as organized as they could have been which led to students having problems [on their subjects and logic],” Mrs. Gomez, the 7th grade teacher, said. Even though the kids tried their best and studied hard they didn’t place in the teams quizzes but an 8th grader placed third in Math. Despite the fact they didn’t get awards they still had fun and got an idea and improvements for next year hopefully bring home awards.
Assumption’s 2025-2026 Decathlon team was coached by Mrs.Rocheford, our principal, Mrs.Gomez, our 7th grade teacher, and was led by Nate R. and Aria. “I think we performed pretty good as a team, especially for being one of the youngest teams,” said Aria. Alternates made up of 5th graders were the support system and rooted on the Decathletes making them feel confident and supported.
The Decathletes had to work together on the Logic Quiz and Super Quiz, then solo on their individual topics test. The Logic quiz is a bunch of logic puzzles that the Decathletes have to try to compete while being timed. The Super quiz is a gameshow style game where teams work together to choose answers A-D for questions based on the Super Quiz books.
