6th Grade Explores God’s Creation at Caritas Creek 🌲⭐

Our 6th-grade students recently returned from a memorable week at Caritas Creek Outdoor School in Occidental, where they immersed themselves in learning about God’s Creation alongside Mr. DelCastillo. The week was filled with adventure, reflection, and hands-on science experiences that brought classroom learning to life.

Students explored the Bodega Bay beach, studied creek and water life, hiked through majestic redwood forests, and even ventured out on night hikes to observe the stars. Throughout the week, they also learned about the importance of waste reduction and caring for the environment, deepening their understanding of stewardship of God’s world.

A special highlight was reconnecting with Isa W., Class of 2018, an Assumption alum who is now a teacher naturalist at Caritas Creek. Isa led several engaging activities and served as an inspiring example of how our graduates continue to live out their learning beyond Assumption.

Our students departed on Monday to cheers from the school community and returned on Friday to the joyful embraces of parents who dearly missed them. Midweek, Mrs. Rocheford had the opportunity to visit the camp with our science teacher, Ms. Hammond, to bring some cheer from San Leandro. We watched students get muddy playing Gaga Ball, relax and connect beneath the trees, learned about cabin life from our amazing parent cabin leaders, and welcomed students back from Lake George, where they explored aquatic ecosystems and enjoyed canoeing.

This experience beautifully reflected our mission to form lifelong learners, socially responsible citizens, and active stewards of God’s Creation—and created memories our 6th graders will carry with them for years to come.
