🌼 Celebrating Día de los Muertos – The Day of the Dead! 🌼
Our school community joins many others around the world in learning about and celebrating Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead!
This colorful celebration takes place on Saturday, November 1st, and Sunday, November 2nd. It comes from Mexican and Latin American traditions and is a special time when we remember those we have lost. But don’t let the name fool you—it’s not a sad holiday! Instead, it’s a joyful celebration filled with bright colors, music, food, flowers, and love.
Families come together to honor and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed away. You might see ofrendas, or altars, decorated with candles, photos, favorite foods, and marigold flowers—all meant to welcome the souls of loved ones back for a special visit.
In the Catholic faith, Día de los Muertos connects closely with All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2). These are special days to pray for and remember the faithful who have died, trusting in God’s promise of eternal life. The celebration reminds us that death is not the end, but part of our journey toward heaven—and that love lives on forever.
At school, we’ll be learning more about this tradition through art, stories, and prayer. Together, we’ll celebrate the beautiful message of hope, family, remembrance, and faith that Día de los Muertos brings.
