SLT and Campus Ministry Launch Filipino American Heritage Month Celebration

Celebrating Filipino American Heritage Month

What is Filipino Heritage Month?

Filipino Heritage Month celebrates Filipino Americans and the many things that they have contributed to the world around us. Filipino heritage commemorates the very first recorded presence of Filipinos in the United States. This heritage month was proposed by the Filipino American National Historical Society in 1991, with the first celebration following later in 1992. This month was federally acknowledged in 2009 to celebrate Filipino American History in the month of October.

Why It Matters to Our Community

Filipino American Heritage Month is important to our community. Filipino Americans are a big part of our community and have a big impact in our community like during school festivals with their delicious food like Adobo, Lumpia, Pancit, and much more. They also are a big, diverse  population in the school community as many classes have many Filipino American students. They contribute a lot to our school community and by recognizing them creates a more welcoming environment and a more supportive one for our community.

How Assumption School is celebrating Filipino American Heritage Month:

  • SLT will announce what Filipino heritage month is.
  • SLT will announce important figures like Jose Rizal and Lea Salonga!

All the best,
