Students in Grade 2 celebrated Reading by attending a Book-Tasting event this month.
Using a restaurant theme, students were presented with platters of books in six different genres: Realistic Fiction, Historic Fiction, Science Fiction, Animal Heroes, Fantasy and Graphic Novels. Students were able to "taste" the books by exploring their covers, blurbs and first pages, then record their impressions on a "menu" or response sheet.
Next, they were given the opportunity to discuss which books were their favorites and jot down their "orders", a few titles to check out later from the class library.
This was a fun way for the kids to be exposed to authors and genres they might not otherwise try and discover new books they will love to read!
