In case you missed it - we're in the news!

Thank you to Phuong Hathaway and the St. Nick's team for making a difference in our San Leandro community!

In a year marked by continued high holiday sales and spending, the kids at Assumption School turned consumerism on its head, using Christmas purchases to help others in need by raising $11,000 through their annual St. Nick’s Boutique. The school is donating this money to fully fund Davis Street Family Resource Center’s Hot Breakfast Program for low-income preschoolers, as it has done for the last 28 years. Funds will also supply move-in kits for families experiencing domestic violence through the Building Futures’ program. In the last 9 years, Assumption School has raised and donated $71,000. Former Assumption parent and local San Leandro celebrity Brian Copeland started the St. Nick’s Boutique, a long-standing tradition at Assumption School and a way for students to directly impact their community. Families donate gently used items or make cookies and plant arrangements to be auctioned off or sold at the boutique. Students from kindergarten through 8th grade delight in attending the boutique and picking out gifts for Assumption School Sets a Fundraising Record for Davis Street’s Hot Breakfast Program mom, dad, and grandma—in a rare opportunity to shop for themselves in many cases. The St. Nick’s Boutique embodies the spirit of giving by providing kids the opportunity to give to their loved ones while also giving to the larger community. As Phuong Hathaway, a parent and one of the funding-raising organizers for the last 8 years described the event, “It brings us great joy knowing that we can make a huge impact in our community helping both low-income preschoolers and women experiencing domestic violence. St. Nick’s Boutique is the epitome of giving back.”
