Assumption's Rising Stars:
Youth Representation at
Martin Luther King Oratorical Festival

We are thrilled to share the wonderful news that our talented young parishioners represented Assumption at the Martin Luther King Oratorical Festival and Poetry Slam last Monday! San Leandro Community came together to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and embrace the power of words to inspire change.

Cheers go out to our young speakers Daniel Leighton, who attends Roosevelt and to Sarah & Rachel Hernandez. We applaud loudly in support of their hard work preparing for this inspiring event.

We are so very proud of all of you! Daniel wrote and memorized an original essay “The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”; Sarah recited “We’re a Choir” by Mark Burrows and Rachel recited the poem “The Hope of Today” by Gabrielle Marshall and she placed 2nd in her age category.
