Assumption's Cross Country Finishes In Style

Assumption's Cross Country team put the finishing touches on a great season in style on Friday, October 21 at the Diocesan Championships held at Crown Beach in Alameda! We had 22 runners from K-8 this season, and our athletes practiced three times per week at venues including Redwood Regional Park, Lake Chabot Park, and the San Leandro Marina.

All of that training paid off at the final meet where--competing against over 800 runners overall--we had multiple runners place in the top 30! In boys' 6-8, James Prater placed first in a thrilling finish with a blistering 5:27.2 over the mile-long course, and Javier Febres-Gomez finished 25th (3d 6th Grader). Behind these performances, the Assumption Boys' 6-8 team finished 4th out of 20 teams. On the girls' side, Josie Alderson finished 26 in the 3-5 grade division, followed closely by Jessica Childs in 28th.

All of our runners pushed themselves and improved while enjoying our beautiful local parks, camaraderie with their teammates, and learning to love (or tolerate?) a healthy life-long sport. Thanks to our intrepid assistant coaches, Carlos Xavier and Jeff Mihaly, and all of the parent support we've gotten over the years!
