May Crowning on May 2nd honors Mary

Next Monday May 2nd, the 8th grade will lead us in our annual May Crowning Mass. May Crowning is a traditional Roman Catholic ritual held during the month of May.  It is a solemn procession. At the close of the procession our church statue of the Blessed Virgin in the church is crowned with a garland or crown of flowers honoring Mary as “the Queen of May.” There is a special honor attached to the 8th graders being chosen to crown the statue.

The tradition of welcoming May and honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary is always a celebration led by the 8th grade. We ask every student in all classes to bring ONE flower to help adorn the statue of Mary during our Mass. A class representative will hold the vase of class flowers and will process with our 8th graders Monday morning before the Mass.

Thanks for helping us honor Mary!
