Assumption School ends the 2020-2021 School Year

Assumption Catholic School finished their 2020-2021 school year on June 10 with a beautiful outdoor liturgy of the Word hosted by the students of Campus Ministry and celebrated with Fr. John. Since October 2020, we have provided in-person learning to our students, first in our younger grades, then in January, for all students from TK through 8th grade. We learned to communicate through masks, wash our hands regularly, and respect each other's space so the school remained open and had no community spread of COVID-19 during the entire year.

Education took on a new face at Assumption and around the country with distance learning and hybrid learning allowing for our families to make the right choice for their situation. The teachers did an amazing job juggling these learning formats and supporting families as best as they could.
Assumption students missed the opportunity to worship as a school together in the church, but found other ways to gather together and share God's word. During our virtual faith family activities, 8th graders led students not just in prayer but also in fun community building activities that brought us together. We are so grateful Mr. Vaughan worked with classes to bring virtual liturgies of the word to our students and families. And we were able to hold on to traditions including the first grade's annual Christmas Pageant, third and sixth grade Stations of the Cross, and second grade's preparation of the sacraments. Campus Ministry's focus was to decrease food insecurity by supporting St. Vincent de Paul with food drives. And we are grateful for Fr. Leonard and Fr. Chris for celebrating the Sacrament of reconciliation with our 3rd through 8th graders. We look forward to building our relationship with Fr. John in the new school year!

We are also grateful for the parish community support as we all rallied around the school's fundraising efforts reaching goals all year first with our Drive In Festival in September, Fit and Fun fundraiser October, Gala in March, and Week of Giving in April. Thank you to our supporters!

So we have ended in a better place than we started - with in-person end-of-the-year ceremonies like our Class of 2021 8th grade and Kindergarten graduations live-streamed and back in our sacred space, the Church of the Assumption. And we enter into the summer with the hope of continued health and happiness for our school and parish communities.
