April 2, 2020 Update

Dear Families,

We are learning by the hour today the impact of the recent pandemic. As per Gov. Newsom's Press Conferences yesterday, California’s schools are being asked to prepare distance learning platforms for the remainder of the school year. While we have yet to hear from our county health officials, it is reasonable to assume at this point we will continue our Long Term Dismissal (LTD) Plan for sustaining student learning for the remainder of the school year.

Assumption School will use our time in April to examine the impact of this decision and necessary next steps in terms of planning for May and June. We will be working in partnership with our parent community, including our 8th grade graduate families, to develop plans to support our students as we close this unprecedented school year.

We have also continued the process of evaluating our Distance Learning Plans to include support systems of faith and education for our teachers and parents. We are working to create a flexible workflow for students and parents as well as a sustainable workflow for teachers and staff. With that in mind, we are asking families to make Fridays a "make up" or "virtual field trip" day where students can work on assignments missed over the week or extend their learning to something they might be passionate about while teachers take this day to plan, prepare, and assess. It will affect families with limited teacher-led activities this day as well as some patience with response times for emails.

Our Distance Learning Plans are now available for families on our Distance Learning Page. A new resource for families partnering in the teaching of your students is a pretty wonderful Common Sense resource called Wide Open School. This is a great resource for families looking for easy and accessible resources for their students to fill your day.

In the midst of this new reality, we remain steadfast in our mission to partner with you, our dedicated parents, to educate and form the whole child. I continue to pray for the health of you and your families, and an end to this pandemic.

As a community of faith, and as a global family, we are in this together. While we all acknowledge this is a difficult time, we also must acknowledge this is a time when our school community of faith, family and love will persevere as one! Together, we continue to do great things!

Sincerely,

Lana Rocheford
